Woodoo Stadium · foosball history, invention, table football, ITSF
The history of foosball begins depending on who you ask in England, France, Spain, or Germany. The invention is contested. The patents are old.
The First Patent
The first documented patent for a table football game was filed in the United Kingdom in 1921 by Harold Searles Thornton. His design is recognisably the game played today.
The Spread Across Europe
The game spread rapidly through Europe in the 1940s and 1950s. By the 1970s it had become a competitive sport in the United States. The International Table Soccer Federation was founded in 2002 and now oversees tournaments in over 70 countries.
